Many people have debated and wondered for years if graffiti should be considered an art or is it just a form of vandalism. When asked if graffiti is a crime or form of art the answer usually depends on who you ask. There are some people that are openly willing to tell you that it also depends on whether or not the graffiti is a form of tagging or not. Most everyone can agree that tagging is not an art express but merely a way for gang members to claim territory. Tagging is gang signs or characters to let people know that this is their territory. Sometimes tagging is just putting the so called artist’s gang name on a wall. This is all considered vandalism because there is obviously no art expressed here. However, what about pictures of oceans and beautiful memories is this considered art?
Again, the answer would be depends on who you ask because legally it is still a crime. However, some businesses have actually paid graffiti artists to paint wonderful pictures on their business. This is an extraordinary and wonderful thing that graffiti has been accepted in some instances when great art is portrayed. Graffiti wouldn't be considered graffiti if it wasn't painted publicly on random surfaces this is what gives most artist there edge. Most artists can never sign the beautiful pieces they create from fear of being found. It is a crime to create graffiti and is considered a form of vandalism and has serious repercussions.
